Nature-based Solutions and Carbon Credit
NbS harnesses natural processes to address environmental challenges, enhancing sustainability and resilience. NbS projects absorb more CO2 or prevent the release of greenhouse gases while also benefiting local communities and the area's biodiversity. These efforts also represent a legitimate pathway to generating carbon credits. Carbon credits create a financial incentive for companies and organisations to reduce their emissions. By putting a price on carbon, businesses are encouraged to invest in cleaner technologies and practices.
In cap-and-trade programs, governments set a cap on total emissions and allocate a specific number of carbon credits. Companies that reduce their emissions below their allocated credits can sell the surplus, encouraging a broader reduction in overall emissions.
Carbon credits play a crucial role in mitigating the release of greenhouse gas emissions into the environment. Furthermore, it provides an extra benefit by mitigating environmental carbon emissions, which may be achieved by afforestation or the substitution of coal combustion with wind power generation.
